GENS 0.95!!! - March 02,2001 by JoseQ
As mentioned in the Rumor Mill just yesterday, a new version of GENS has been released! You can download it from the Emulator Download Page. Also as mentioned in a previous Rumor Mill, this version partially supports 4 player games! (only two games supported). There's also other additions like the option to select the 3 or 6 button Genesis pad, there's a bunch of games that have been fixed and also some that are still broken. Visit the sites for more details about what's new, and also some notes on the four player support. Enjoy!

This is a great emulator, kudos to Stephane.

I did notice one thing though: the timing code is *completely* disabled when you use any of the frameskip options. I find this odd, because it means that the chip-speeds are not locked down to a maximum rate. So, if frameskip 2 is faster than normal on your system, but frameskip 1 is slower, you cannot get accurate emulation speed.

Shouldn't the frameskip *only* skip the output conversion/drawing routines, and not disable CPU speed checks?

I only noticed this because I normally set emulators to framskip 0 on my system (in case the auto-speed routines aren't up to snuff). I did this with Gens and it runs at about 200% normal speed on my overclocked Athlon.

Later,

Genis is the best Genesis emulator IMO, how about porting it to the Dreamcast

I personally wouldn't have gotten that excited about a new Gens release..but I for one do prefer Gens over any other Genesis Win9x emulator.

As for the comment above...let us not forget that excitement like this was perfectly acceptable when the CPS2 stuff first came out.

Chill...and let the guy have some fun. I will fire up Gens myself tonight and check out the new changes.
