About Capcom @ Final Burn's - March 06,2001 by JoseQ
I'm not sure how long this has been sitting there at the Final Burn but in one of my many visits to the site, I noticed an "About Capcom" link sitting right on the sidebar. I clicked on it to see what it was all about and there it was, a very cool four page story about Capcom and some of their classic arcade games. It's a very interesting reads and might have bits and pieces that you may not know. I recommend that you go check it out as I'm sure you'll enjoy it, specially if you're a Capcom fan. On an interesting note, the first time I heard about Capcom, was back in 1986, when I played their NES game "Commando". I had never heard about the company, and liked the game very much. Little did I know that it was to become one of the coolest software development companies around... CAPtain COMmando... will never forget that!

The CapCom thing was ok, but not really inclusive enough... only dealt with SF2 onwards, and only player vs player fighting games.... needs to be expanded, but it could be the start of a great project!

As for the flames since Jose took down the ROMs. You people (or person looking at the IPs) make me sick. Jose put ROMs up here and didn't charge you anything to download them, he put them up at great personal risk.
You don't seem to realise that we should be grateful that we can get ROMs for our favourite games and that very talented people are not doing better thigs with their talent than writing emulators.

Without these people, you would not be able to emulate your favourite games at all. So STFU with the flaming, sit back and think about how much fun you have had playing games on emulators, how many ROMs you have downloaded from Jose at NO COST.
Jose didn't demand that you click his banners when you download ROMs, emu authors (usually) do not ask money for their emulators, you get it all FOR FREE, so just be grateful for that, instead of demanding that ROMs be made available.

Behind the screen, there is a real person risking a lot to give you ROMs, you should not be complaining if that person takes them down, be thankful that they were ever available in the first place.
Behind the emulator there are hundreds, thousands of hours of time, be thankful that people develop emulators, do not demand to be able to emulate XYZ, or bitch when an emulator has a bug.

You can't charge for roms, dumbass. Just putting the roms up is illegal. If you sell the roms the company would really get pissed.

Belive me, I have nothing against Dave at all but I think anybody who uses emulators enough could slap together what he made. Or if anything he should say "Capcom's history of fighting games" because there's a lot more games under different genres that he didn't even mention. He did good to mention Ghosts 'n Goblins. But what about some of the other quarter munchers like Black Tiger? Legendary Wings? Phelios? And the highly acclaimed Megaman/Rockman series? That's like mentioning Sega without Sonic The Hedgehog. But I still love Dave and Final Burn and I really apreciate his efforts.

Well, sure. =) Anyone could. The fact of the matter is, Dave is the one who actually did it. If I'd done it before he did, I could claim credit for doing it.

(I did post reviews for Vampire and Vampire Savior, though. Check them out in the Reviews section.)

Dave does get some special recognition for this, because he's already doing a lot for the emu community. Had I posted an article about Capcom, I probably wouldn't have gotten as much recognition for it because I'm not an emu author. That's fine, though - I contribute in small ways. :)

"He did good to mention Ghosts 'n Goblins."

The side by side Ghosts 'n Goblins - Ghouls 'n Ghosts was really nice.

A screenshot of Street Fighter (original) while introducing SF2 would be a nice touch.

"But what about some of the other quarter munchers like Black Tiger? Legendary Wings? Phelios?"

Phelios is not a Capcom game ;)

There is one mistake in the summary I noticed, BTW. The bootlegs did not start appearing until AFTER Street Fighter II Championship Edition.

Championship Edition was produced simply to capitalize on the huge success of SF2. Fans had been begging Capcom for the ability to have same-player vs. same-player matches. The addition of the bosses was a nice touch.

The bootleg flood started shortly afterwards.

HyperFighting was introduced for the sole purpose of competing with them. It was a serious attempt to add some spice to the series and balance gameplay, which the bootlegs threw out the window.

Interestingly enough, Hyper Fighting doesn't add any new frames of animation to the game from SF2 Championship Edition.

It wasn't until SSF2 on CPS2 Hardware that Capcom added both new characters and new animation frames to the existing characters.

Okay, I have a mission for any game otakus who are Capcom freaks like me. Resident Evil (Biohazard) is influenced by an old Capcom game called something like "Home Sweet Home", this game was for famicom I believe... If anybody knows what I'm talking about- What is the actual game called? And what system is it for? Is the name loanwords or Japanese? I want to know, so I can round out my Capcom Collection... oh and by the way, Zangief is the king of Street fighters and Ken is just a loser (When I play anyway). Hose Q's is always the first site I go to every day, thanks.

I know what your talking about, i have the rom which i haven't played in a long time, but i used nesticle to play it, and my guess is that its strictly famicom. It was an rpg and it was all Japanese text, so it made the game pretty difficult to get through. Lotsa scary monsters in it though :)

People left comments that were just nasty

run this site are obivously trying hard
to bring people good information and
interesting stories. Because I am sure
that you, the people talkign sh!t, are
the first ones who complain whenever a

days late, my suggestion is that you shut
the hell up and if you don't like how a
site is being run then go some where else
so that those of us who do like it will
not be deprived because the people
running sites shut them down because of
jackass, like you, sending harassign email

I only see one person flaming JoseQ on this board, actually, with a few response-flames. If you look closely at both of those messages, you'll notice they're from the same IP address. Keep this in mind when you see multiple flames - if they come from the same IP, they're just the same person spamming the board.

Any person who's recognized as a leader and an authority in any setting, whether on the Internet or otherwise, is going to have people who don't like them no matter what they do. Some people just aren't mature enough to take those comments private.

For what it's worth, JoseQ, I think people who flame you like that are giving this site some entertainment value. =) Not that I wouldn't mind seeing them all go away, but hey... look on the bright side.

We see the true stupidity of some people. JoseQ, I do hope you're ignoring the flames... *sigh*

On the topic of Capcom, about the only other software-only company that has been around as long that I can think of (at least, this late at night) is Konami. Both have risen to be amongst the world's best developers.

Ah, wait.. there's Taito and Namco. Still, interesting that there are a few 'superstar' companies that have produced the vast majority of the real hits of the last twenty years. Doesn't appear this trend will end anytime soon.

It's interesting to see the history of this company. I wonder if it would be possible to interview someone AT Capcom directly and get a little more info from them on how they run their company - how they get such talented people in there, etc. I honestly think Capcom is one of the best game companies in existence.

Was I the only one who played this game? Please tell me someone can explain this. Thanks JoseQ!
