The Rumor Mill! - April 04,2001 by JoseQ
Well boys and girls, it's time once again for another edition of The Rumor Mill here at JoseQ's EmuViews. Qmeister here with a bag full of rumors for your entertainment. I know you want to know what's in the bag this week, so I'll start with that right away. I've got Sega Arcade Project, I've got GENS, Daedalus, Apollo, AGES, and FPSE which will include some juicy screenshots as usual. So let's get it on!
Let's start with the Sega Arcade Project. What I hear is that the first release is happening on Thursday, April 5th! (Tomorrow) However, since it is already tomorrow in some parts of the world, you can already find the first playable game on the website! The title of this game is "Duck Shoot", and like that pre-release that existed on a message board out there, you need a plug-in to be able to play it. The rumor continues though... As I understand it, two more playable games will be coming out on the same day, so I expect those to show up there shortly. Keep an eye on the site for more updates.
Continuing along with GENS. Last time we looked, Stéphane was looking into Kaillera with hopes of integrating it into his Genesis emulator. Work has been done on implementing this but it is still not complete. Since GENS wasn't designed with Kaillera in mind, it's still a bit hard to integrate everything together.
The Daedalus project seems to be advancing quite nicely. The report I received mentions this emulator having 'superb' graphics. From what I gather, it is definitely not based on UltraHLE or 1964, but it is still very nicely done. "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" is semi-working on the emulator, although there's some glitches still. Sound is done via plug-ins though, so you should be able to use your favorite plug-in for that.
On the Apollo front, we've seen Azimer (original author) teaming up with a new member, which we haven't been able to identify yet. However, this guy seems to be quite busy at work on this emulator, although we haven't been able to capture what he's doing exactly. Hopefully I'll get more info on him next week.
I know you will definitely like the AGES news. Remember I mentioned last week that a new version would come out within a few weeks? Well a 'few weeks' ended up being 'just a bit over a week' as we will be honored with a new AGES release this weekend! Well, that's what my report says anyhow. There is a lot of improvements going into this emulator, some of which I covered in the previous mill, but Quinntesson has been quite careful in hiding some other 'surprise' features of this new version. So keep an eye on that happening this coming weekend.
And to finish in a nicely manner, I guess you'll want to see some pictures of the up and coming version of FPSE. While I never get any details about a possible release date, my correspondant is quite good at getting screenshots every now and then. Those shown today, originate from "The Simpsons Wrestling" and although the ratio doesn't look quite right, they do look impressive; at least the title screen. Check them out here:

Screenshot 3

Well, that's all I have for this edition of the Rumor Mill. I'm glad that I've been able to deliver on time for the past few weeks; that means I'm getting at least 5 hours of sleep a night. So, until next week, Qmeister signs off, and thanks for reading!

Obviously there must be some stress involved when one is at the forefront of emulation technology...

I hope there are more reasons for discontinuing FB than comments from an individual whose adopted slogan is "You only live once, so cause trouble while you still can!" Adding this tag to one's message is an INSTANT credibility destroyer. Who would take his preceding comments seriously?

FB is fantastic. To its author, a humble "thank you!" Also, a reminder: there are so many people in this world. There's no way to reach them all with your messages. All people know is that there is a program on which they can play their favorite games. Very simply put, people ask questions (and many of them want to know about X-men vs). Just have to accept--don't take "stupidity" personally. Much of the time, it's just someone being genuine; he's genuinely wondering "can I play my favorite game?"

Yep, seems that there are more and more retards getting into emulation these days and destroying everything in their path.

Nice to see some news about AGES though! I really would like to see some 32x games running.

>>Why is everybody posting lame comments?

I think it´s without sense to think about people to be lame or not. What means "LAME"? Not being a coder? Not cracking/converting ROMs? Being rude? Emulation is 1) for the programmers of the emulators 2) for some people that remember those good old times 3) everyone who wanna take a look.

Lame comments means to be only attacking others, senseless, nerving emu-coders (look for WINUAE Brian - he has the same problem), creating a bad mood on boards. That´s what I think.

You cannot expect everybody to be a high graduated, 10-year-old-system-fanatic, hardware reference master and game-guide-monster.

This is a lame comment of a high graduated,20-year-old-system-fanatic,(Amiga&C64)hardware reference master who played 1000s of game till end and is still proud to possess the biggest C64&Amiga-Solutions-Collection. DIG IT!!!

What's the problem? The changes haven't gone in yet, and will not replace the board either. It'll be a co-existent board probably.

Please go read the logs on the FinalBurn site and see what kind of crap Dave has had to put up with. If you were in his shoes, I think you'd stop your work too.

An emulator that is working nearly perfect with the most important games it enough, I think. I am happy to have FB there where it is now. It´s really hard to be on the same code for several years. Sometimes it can be refreshing changing to another project. Why not? Recreation gives you inspiration and later follows motivation - that´s better than working till designation with capitulation.

No Zelda isnt working at all yet in Daedalus due to a PI transfer bug. And the graphics are very good especially on mario but expect the system requirements to be P3 minimum. with a decent geforce.
