People who play kaillera will reckognize me as the guy who challenges everybody to mania challenge... When Karate Champ works, it'll really be on!! But anyway, I am a hardcore oldschool gamer... I like the capcom games and the fighting stuff too... I figure that a lot of the people who are getting on and playing kaillera weren't the ones playing crazy climber and yie ar kung fu at the mini mart until all of their allowance was gone... I feel discouraged that they don't want to play the old school stuff, but I guess I don't blame 'em... its just a reflection of who is in the kaillera community right now. I about kicked myself when I finally sat down and read what kaillera was... "Oh my God, Mame on the net?! No way!!" Let's have a blast... just remember, before there was Street Fighter, there was Final Fight, and before Final Fight, there was Double Dragon etc. etc. blah blah :)

Ladies and Gentlemen, telling people to try the old games like this isn't going to work. I doubt if 10% of the people are going to listen, much less 90%.

Leave them to what they want to play, and you play the classics, ne? It's a free country, and this thread really is getting downright insulting in places to people.

I agree. ; )

Just do what you enjoy. You can disagree, just don't step on the other's right to play what he or she likes best.

A golden rule of gaming. ; )

I think the statistics we're seeing on the main Kaillera site can speak for themselves. With the exception of King Of Fighters '98, all of the top 10 games on there are CPS2 games.

That's really sad, in my opinion.

Exactly.. however I've groomed an elite group of gamers around myself, who all play OTHER GAMES BESIDES CPS2 AND SNK FIGHTERS! Amazing, huh?

Hey, you just have to find your own way. It's like in Jedi Knight, finding people who play something other than No Force Canyon Oasis, or in Half Life people who don't play Counter Strike version whatever (whichever version is the "right" one to play nowadays).

You just have to look harder.. but I agree, if you just want to play Street Fighter Alpha series, KOF series, and whatnot, you'll never be without a game.

What gets me are all the source ports of Kaillera out there (nothing wrong with open source, I'm just talking compatability). People will sacrifice all the other games in order to play just one decrypted CPS2 game (be it Xmen Vs. SF or Shadow over Mysteria). Personally I'd rather play Ring Rage or TMNT (or a dozen other games).

Heck, I had some pretty fun "Wizard of Wor" games on there too. ; )

CAPCOM made some damn good games. What's wrong with that? Most of these games are only fun when your competing against someone, and most of the time you can't do that at home or at the arcade. Whats up with this whining.

They're great, fun games, but there's just so many OTHER games that people are ignoring. However I can see somebody who downloads kaillera then immediately grabs about three CPS2 games and maybe KOF98 and then goes off to play. Not everybody has been collecting "oldschool" games with the dream of one day playing them online.

I actually prefer the cooperative games (which remind me of parties at arcades playing those three and four player games), because lag can often make one on one competitive games go really sour really fast. Of course those can also be very fun for a quick match (if your controls are set right that is!). ; )

They are great games, but I'd like to play other games too. Some people seem to want to play nothing but.. and that's their free choice. Just find people who play other stuff for your needs

The reason I say it's sad is because, yes, I agree, Capcom has made some ASTOUNDING games. *BUT IT'S ALL PEOPLE SEEM TO BE INTERESTED IN!!* It's all people have been talking about. Lately it's been all CPS2, all the time, 24 hours a day. 90% of the people in the community just want to play CPS2.

It totally eclipses other emulator projects - what point is there for anyone else to accomplish anything in the emulation scene when it's obvious that it'll be appreciated far less than anything CPS2-related?

I guess it puts pressure on people who are in the scene to draw praise and the admiration of the people who download the roms and play the games.

If they are in it to prove their own skills, or to really do a favor to emulation, or to impress the legions of (softer spoken) old school gamers, they'll be fine.

If all you want to do is impress the CPS2 crowd, just give 'em what THEY want, which apparently isn't too hard to do, just watch out for backlash if you don't do it fast enough (ask Dave, right?) ; p

It was easy to see this a mile away, these were very popular games in their day, and are still alive in the memories of many. Capcom probably "Saved" the arcade scene at one time for better or for worse. The fact that their games are still popular shouldn't be a bad thing. But I agree, with 1800+ games to choose from (many of them incredible classics in their own right) you'd think people would play other stuff too.

Do yourselves a favor and introduce other games to people.. classic and lesser known ones. I was getting people into "Ring Rage" the other day, a little known Pit Fighter spinoff from 1990. Very fun. ; )

(You mentioned movie scriptwriters as well...) The reason I'm being so outspoken about this is because (a) Never before in emulation history have the masses been so openly abusive to anyone over an emulator or particular system, and (b) You can't compare writing an emulator to writing the script to a new movie. With only a couple of nameable exceptions, these people are *NOT* paid to do this stuff.

They have no incentive to keep up with it except for personal satisfaction, learning, and gaining appreciation from the community. If CPS2 drowns out everything else in the scene, why would anyone consider making another emulator public?

>How long have CPS2 games been emulated? Not that long.
>CPS2 is the flavor of the month! maybe the year!
>Life goes on!
>Everyone has their moments - even you!

I suspect it'll be going on until the next big things in arcades and consoles are emulated, and then even bigger masses are gonna be flocking to that. The ball's rolling now. Can anyone stop it?

>Get over it!And get a life DICKHEADS! !@#$ing
>MALE/FEMALE PMS sh!ts!

Whoooooooaaaa... see, I may be really outspoken about my stance on CPS2 emulation and the state of the scene, but notice I have not once stooped that low and started calling people names they didn't deserve.

Like I said, I wish CPS2 emulation never got started, or not this early actually. Nobody seem to care about anything else. JoseQ's site is a good example - as soon as he posts a new update mentioning a new emulator you will see about two or three comments about it. Now if he posts anyhting about CPS2 then there will be 80+ comments on the subject. I also enjoy CPS2 emulation just like everybody else out there, but I can live without it. There are so many great classics playable in MAME, not even to mention the other console emulators like zsnes, kgen, etc.

I wonder what the next big thing will be that will change CPS2 emulation into wasted hard disk space.

Talk about lack of perspective!
Did people stop writing scripts because Titanic was talked about for a long time?
Did movie producers stop making other movies just because Star Wars was all people seemed to care about for months in 1999?
On T.V., "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" was what people talked about.
The following year it was "Survivor".

Some people will still play pro golf even though Tiger Woods is the greatest ever.
Some people will still play pro basketball regardless of Michael Jordan's success and possible comeback.
Emulator authors WILL continue to write projects regardless of the latest CPS2 craze.
How long have CPS2 games been emulated? Not that long.
