The Rumor Mill - April 11,2001 by JoseQ
As scheduled, here is another edition of the weekly Rumor Mill, happening every Wednesday exclusively at JoseQ's EmuViews. Qmeister is here with a bag filled with some of the coolest underground info I could find. What do I have this week with me? I have TR64, a bit about JAE, a teaser about Meka, some rumors from Zeograd's camp, Mimic, Raine, AGES and Laser. So let's dig right into it!
First up is TR64 which I was very glad to receive a report about early in the week. We rarely find any rumors regarding N64 emulation so I'm very happy to have this. Our reports indicate that TR64 WIP6 is in the works. Although I don't have a future release date, I do have some of the specs to be included in this next release. There will be better sound support, and a new way of controlling the timing of the games, apparently they will run at 100% of real time. However, the most interesting bit, is one that some of you might expect, and that is Network Playability via Kaillera! TR64 will be the next emulator to adopt this tremendously popular API and most likely the first network playable N64 emulator in existence. I look forward to this next release!
As for the JAE's camp. There has been some activity in the area, however progress has been little. However, we received word that there could be a new addition to the JAE family in the not too distant future. Likely timeline is about two weeks.
And the bit about MEKA is probably a bit too early to tell; but I must say that what Zoop has been seen working on as of late is very interesting indeed. In fact, it may open the door to some very desired possibilities... more on that in the coming Mills...
On the Zeograd front, those interested in HuC, should have noticed a release in the past few days. A bit more interesting is the fact that Zeograd himself is working on yet another home brewn game for the PC Engine platform. This seems to be similar in gameplay to the "Double Dragon" style of games. Hopefully, we'll be able to snag some pictures for you guys next week.
Moving along to the once again active Mimic. Following the latest release, BeaverMan has also seen "Moon Cresta" hardware and the "Galaxian" hardware working, so a release might be closer than you think. However, Mike wants to get a few things fixed before this happens, but stay tuned as this should be in the horizon. We managed to take a look at Mike's schedule and it seems that next in line is the Gameboy driver once again. It'll be a while before work on that continues, but it'll be interesting to say the least.
About Raine, I'm not sure how much of a rumor this is, but a new release should be happening before the end of the week, so stay tuned for that rocking our world pretty soon. The bad news is that Raine32 will not happen, so we'll be sticking with the Linux and DOS versions this time.
And even though an AGES release just happened, Quinntesson is actually busy working to fix some things based on the feedback he has received by now. In doing that, he has also fixed some old 32X bugs that have plagued the emulator for a while, so be prepared for improved Sega 32X emulation in the next release as well. This should also happen in the next few days.
On the Laser front, we've learned that the Laser author (also in charge of the Sega Arcade Project) has put his multi-arcade emulator back on the front burner for development work. A driver system is being worked on that will enable Laser to accept plug-ins like some other emulators are doing. This architecture will later see drivers for the SAP projects as well as a brand new "Phoenix" driver to enable laser to play that classic game. It will be a while before all this is completed, so for now, you have to stick with the plug-in based emulation for the Sega oldies.
Well folks, that's all I have in the bag for this week. I appreciate you taking the time to read through this, and until next week, Qmeister signs off! Have a good one!

I don't know weather or not this is true but i found an IRC channel where the Nemu team talks about development of emulator. There is some guy on the channel named ZeZu and I think that he is a new coder for Nemu.

AGES release in the next few days? Not likely, you should fix the last sentence of the AGES paragraph.

Please tell us what you have about MEKA. It is my favourite emulator, and you saying you had a rumour on it, then saying it was to early to tell, really p***ed me off.

I bet it has something to do with one of the following:

1. Port of Meka to Win2000
2. Addition of MSX emulation
3. Addition of some other Sega system
4. Some port adaptor that would allow you to hook up Sega stuff to your PC.

Am I hot or cold on this one?

Operation Wolf 2 was called "Operation Thunderbolt" (it's in Raine, nice game, though the ending is pretty tough).

I've only seen Operation Wolf 3 in the form of screenshots. I remember it being advertised in a magazine, but never got to play it. They described it as "like Lethal Enforcers" ha.. shows how far back their memories went (how about the original Operation Wolf?) ; )
