The Rumor Mill! - April 19,2001 by JoseQ
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, gather around for another edition of the JoseQ's EmuViews exclusive known as the Rumor Mill! Besides the unpleasant happenings of yesterday, and the feelings that I hadn't felt since I received my very first hate mailnote, Qmeister has put together a bag of rumors for you to enjoy as we look into the emulation scene's underground development. So what's in the bag? I've got a bit of Squeem, Genital68K, a bit about FreezeSMS and Gens, Zeograd's game, Bliss and Ages. Not a lot, I know, but still fun eh? Let's get right to it!
Apparently, Squeem (an NES emulator that went missing some time ago) has been entirely rewritten and will feature some neat stuff. First off, and the one you will want to get your hands off real quick is support for Kaillera! (It seems Kaillera is in every Rumor Mill now) There's also a bunch of other stuff added, fixed and improved. You'll be surprised as to what we've found, and in a Rumor Mill first, we'll even contribute to the leakeage of an early version of this emulator. If you want to grab your own Kaillera enabled version of Squeem, copy and paste this link into your browser: 'http://www.squeem.org/shit/squeem-0.60beta2.zip'. Check it out!
So how about Genital 68K? You might have read the post yesterday about it being improved with 68010 emulation and wondered 'what the heck does that mean?'. Well, it has no effect on Sega Genesis emulators that employ this library; however, one emulator that might benefit from this is Pete Dabb's CD-i emulator as that console housed one of those chips. That's probably one of the few gaming pieces that ever used it, so those of you fans of the CD-i (ok, those that bought it and want to see it again (ok, nobody)) will be glad to know that this emulator might get what it needs from Genital68K.
The bits about FreezeSMS and GENS are about what the authors have planned. For FreezeSMS, don't expect a release this month, although I would plan on seeing one by the beginning or middle of next month. Unlike what you might have expected, Kaillera will not be supported in that next version, as the author is waiting for the technology to mature a little bit, still, what I hear is that the release should be a big one. As for GENS, the author is taking some vacation time away from coding, so don't expect any updates for at least two weeks.
A bit of scarce news popped up about Zeograd's work in progress game. This title seems to be similar in gameplay to "Double Dragon" / "Final Fight" type of game. Some of the details are starting to filter through, as to the possibility of even more than three players playing at the same time. That should be a riot. Graphics are currently being developed and the game is under design. I'll try to get more information about it's development as it happen, but they're pretty tight in there for now.
As far as Bliss is concerned... While Bliss seems to have reached levels of perfection when it comes to reaching it's emulation targets, the author is by no means letting the project live by itself from now on. He's actively working on how to improve it, or how to expand to new worlds. The first alternative, was the obvious portable route, and to port it to Windows based Pocket PC devices. However, this got a bit difficult without him owning an actual Pocket PC so that project go on hold. That didn't stop him for pursuing other alternatives, and the current target seems to be the Dreamcast! This console has been used for quite a bit of emulation projects so this might turn out to be the new home for Bliss in the new future... Also stay tuned for some possible name changes around the Bliss site; mostly concerning to 'Xanadu'.
And the last report that came in, was the one for AGES. Could you believe that Quinntesson did all of his previous development based on pure research and not the hardware itself? We caught Quinntesson pulling over with his newly acquired Genesis and Sega CD system which will be extensively used in the 'lab' for some hardware testing. If anything, this should bring Ages to be a more accurate emulator. The part that interests Quinntesson the most is the FM sound emulation, so expect progress to happen in those areas first.
Well folks, that's all I have in the bag for this week. Something that's not a rumor is that EmuViews is here to stay. Perhaps I felt a lot different 36 hours ago, but I feel great about the site now, and if me and the Moderator task force can keep the site clean and interactive, it shall live for years to come. Until next week, Qmeister signs off, and thanks for reading!

68010 : Wasn't that also used for amigas?

The amiga 500 was a 68000
The amiga 600 was a 68020 like the 1200, but with less RAM
The amiga 1200 was a 68020
The amiga 4000 was a 68040

Could the 68010 be amiga 500+?

No. The A600 was a 68000 too.

>Could the 68010 be amiga 500+?

No. The A500+ was just a 500 with more chip ram and KS2.0 instead of KS1.2/1.3.

However, the Amiga 500(+) did have an accelerator card with an '010 chip on - it was mostly pointless though, as a '020 card was almost the same price, and much faster.

I thought you could just drop in a '010 in place of the 68000... improvements were pretty minimal, it had something like a three instruction on chip cache and a couple extra addressing modes that nobody used because they wouldn't want to break '020 compatibility.

Getting rid of the ROMs, while not very popular, was a DAMN GOOD MOVE! There are many places where ROMs can be found, but removing them from Emuviews allows the site to focus on its more unique content, such as commenting on news posts, and the Rumour Mill...Thank you Jose Q, and stay alive, the emulation community needs you...;)

You say "JoseQ's EmuViews exclusive known as the Rumor Mill" but that's not true. I remember the good old Emu 24X (don't remember the URL but I think is gone now) site doing a pretty good "Rumor Mill" (same name) ages before EmuViews... they had cool rumors like DeCent that Dreamcast emulator and Zilmar's N64 emulator... lots of screenshots too every week in their edition. So you come in second place JoseQ. The Rumor Mill wasn't a your idea.
