Kaillera 0.81! - May 04,2001 by JoseQ
A new version of the Kaillera server as well as the updated MAME32 Kaillera binary have been released. This fixes some bugs found in version 0.80, mostly related to the keystrokes, and the lag should also be 'magically' reduced. If you're running a server, be sure to update to the latest version, and in the process, snag the new MAME32 as well. Check out the Kaillera site for more details. Thanks to D@Z for the news!

I must say Kaillera (which I've been following from the beginning, thanks to the report from mameworld.net), is the best thing (IMHO) to hit the emulation scene since Mame itself. ; )

The ability to play hundreds of games online really is super cool.

Granted, there are still bugs, but then again, there are still bugs in mame.

I see it as a great boon to use retrogamers, because Arcades are disapearing right and left (and most of them don't carry the games many of us like to play anyway, anymore.. sadly), so this is like creating a "virtual arcade" for people to come to, exchange stories, and play the games they love.

Christophe, the author of Kaillera, really has done a great service to the community, and he takes (constructive) feedback very seriously. The latest verison of his program .81 working with Mame32 really hits the spot!

The forum people are really helpful too.. and the program itself (if you read the documentation) is really no tougher to work than Mame32.

Note that you need to download the "server" version if you want to start a server to be viewed on the master list, and the "client" If you want to join games (you can't join servers and clients that are of different versions.. you'll either crash or desynch).

Maybe it's just me, but I don't have a clue as to how to operate this program, I see nice screenshots of the Kaillera client program on the website but I dpnt know how to poen that, all i can do is open up a dos prompt with the server program. I am also having difficulty finding any info on how to use this program, can anyone point me in the right direction?

You need to download the CLIENT version and run THAT. It's just like Mame32, except you can select "network game" from the pulldown menus, and then when you load that up, you get a match making service and server list. Pick a server, and have at it! Pretty easy. ; )
