Good Deal on VGS! - May 05,2001 by JoseQ
Looking for a good deal on Virtual Game Station from Connectix? Buy.Com has it as the Deal of the Day for just $20.99. The quantities are limited, so if you have been considering buying this Playstation Emulator, you might want to do it today. I have heard mixed comments about this emulator, but for the price, you probably can't go wrong.

As far as any of it goes.. VGS can play 90% or more of the titles out there. It's not really configureable, but then again, using the default settings it runs almost everything. I bought bleem 2 years ago and was very dissapointed. I gave it to my friend and his amd runs it better than my PIII ever did??? But adressing the issue of legal or illegal... that's pointless. Everyone of us on here has copies of something that we don't own and we use it without guilt. If you can get it free.... free is a mighty nice price and it works just the same.

I got Wipeout & Wipeout 2097 to run in Bleem! (earlier versions like 1.4 though), but no emu will run Wip3Out - it crashes at the first checkpoint always... unless someone knows different...

Actually I play Wip3out on EPSXE all the time..it runs perfectly and looks great to boot :)

VGS version 1.40+1.41 will run Wipeout XL fairly well, but you have to have a hefty vid card..16meg or better.

It looks grainy but if you dont got the highest end PC, and dont feel like fussing with 100s of plugins THIS is the emu for you.

Well ePSXe is still my preffered PS emulator.
VGS is a good one too...high compatability but worse looking than the real PS i think, lots more grainy, which is strange considering its running on a monitor :P
Anyway anyone wanting a decent PS emulator you cant go far wrong with VGS.

I've used VGS and I can definately say that as far as speed and compatability are concerned, VGS is the best I've used thus far, and that it far surpasses bleem in this regard

(these are my comments on the PC versions only, I have not used the Mac versions).

So is it worth it? If you have a bunch of games, and a fast enough machine, definately.

Because VGS has much better accuracy and compatibility.

that's right, but is it worth the $20.99, i'll think i'll wait for the free emu's to develop better accuracy and compatibility, altough that epsxe's compatibility is great.

You obviously haven't used win2k if you say it sucks. It is stable. Add a little ram and your computer becomes faster then win98 for most apps.

Even so I would be willing to give up a little speed to gain stability.

WinME is a translation between win9x and win2k.
WinME is so damn sucks because they remove the real DOS support, can't use my emulator.

VGS is a solid emulator. While the graphics routines aren't up to ePSXe par with 3D acceleration and the like, the compatibility rate is pretty high right out of the box. There are also plenty of patches to improve it as well.

You can't go wrong with VGS if you're running 95/98/ME. It won't run under 2K, though.

Heh... well, yeah, you'll see *anything* on the net for free at warez sites. Nevermind that it's flat-out illegal that way.

VGS is the only emu that is a practical alternative to a real PlaySation. I don't own a PSX but I've gone out and bought games specifically too play with VGS, and it's held up as good as the real deal.

I agree, the only thing I dont like about it is that you cant change the configuration much. Im not completely happy with it, but I have better luck with it than Bleem or the freeware alternatives.

Hmm, couldn't you use the current $30 rebate offer at Connectix.com (good until 6-31-01, mailed in by 7-31-01, I believe), along with this purchase at buy.com to get the program for -9.00 (9 dollars to you?) All you would have to do is print out your buy.com reciept, and when you got the game, send the receipt along with the UPC and the filled out form, and you would MAKE 9.00's on the purchase! I figure this would work, as they will accept copied reciepts. Just to make sure, are buy.com reciepts dated?
