New Kaillera Server! - May 07,2001 by JoseQ
A new version of the Kaillera server has been released. You can download version 0.82 from the link above. This version fixes the hang crash that was introduced in the past two versions. The binaries for Windows, Linux and FreeBSD have been made available. Notice this is a server only update and the clients' latest version is still 0.81. Thanks to Emulation H.Q. for the news.

Sure, just run the server on one of your LAN's machines, click "Enter IP", and put in the server's IP address.

Well, you can if you have two PCs with TCP/IP on them... Just set one of them with a server, and then setup two clients and you're all set.

On a side note, has anyone tried the LAN route, and did you get full speed?

I tried that already. All I get is a "CONNECTING......" message. I ran the server and boht of us had the clients. We inputed each others IP address at the same time. ho should put their Ip address ina nd who should just stay there. I need to know SPECIFIC details please.

On a typical LAB, your computers will have local IP addresses that are different from the global IP that you use to access the outside world. On my LAN, my computer is 192.168.1.100, and my roommate's are 192.168.1.101 and 192.168.1.102 . These computers are all hooked up to a DSL router, which then talks to the DSL modem - it has its own IP address that the DSL modem provided it, and it's what talks to the outside world for us.

Two things to try:

(1) Type in the LOCAL IP address for the computer acting as the server. Make sure you specify a port number as well - this is important, or else the clients will just sit there saying "Connecting..." If the server computer is 192.168.1.100, for instance, and you use port 1234, then you'd have the clients connect to 192.168.1.100:1234 .

(2) If you're using a Cable/DSL router to connect your computers to the Internet, you may need to set up port forwarding on that router to forward a specific port or range of ports to the computer acting as the server. Then just specify your Internet IP address and the port number.

Example on my system:

* DSL router forwards ports 3000-3050 to 192.168.1.100 (my computer)
* I specify my external IP on Kaillera Server: 64.130.183.9:3025
* My roommate's computer and other computers on the 'Net all connect to that same IP.

(This is not a real example - I'm not running Kaillera server, but this is how it might work.)

If this still doesn't work for ya, try setting up the server computer with your Internet IP, and tell the client computers to talk to the LOCAL IP with the appropriate port number.

What emulator are you trying to use? The one I've used displays a list of servers available, and you just connect to it. There's no IPs to enter.

If the readme doesn't help you, go to www.kaillera.com and ask NICELY on the forums for help.
