XMAME 0.37b15.1 - May 26,2001 by JoseQ
Lawrence Gold has updated the Unix port of MAME, to the latest build, 0.37b15. You can get this latest release from the XMAME website. There is a patch available that will update your 0.37b14.2 build if you have it. The changes.unix file hasn't been updated on the website and my download is going mighty slow, so I can't tell what's new in this release other than being in sync with the latest official MAME. Still, Unix fans should get it of course.

From Lawrence's message on the xmame list:

- Everything from MAME 0.37b15 except for 'steadykey' support.
- Added an aRts sound server driver. (Manuel Teira)
- Added another aRts sound server driver. It needs reasonable
aRts server settings, something like artsd -F 6 -S 4096 should be ok
to get near accurate response time. (Petr Smotek)
- ALSA updates: Added preliminary support for ALSA 0.9 API; split
the 0.5 and 0.9 API stuff into separate files. (Shyouzou
Sugitani)
- HotRod support is now enabled by either -hotrod or -hotrodse,
just like the DOS/Win32 version.
- Added dummy flicker and vector orientation functions to fxvec.c
so that xmame.xfx can link again.

I beleive Gridle stated that there was such a small performance difference in the AMD optimized version that he wasn't going to bother to make one any more.

You can, of course, compile your own.

What this has to do with xmame, though, is beyond me....
