ZSNES 1.30!!! - June 13,2001 by JoseQ
Quite possibly the best Super NES emulator out there, ZSNES has been updated to version 1.30! You can download the Windows and DOS ports from the Emulator Download Page right now! This version has "Bubsy 2" working again, fixed a random crash when loading ROMs in the Windows port, there's OpenGL support in the Linux port (need to visit the ZSNES site to get that one), and more. Check out the whatsnew.txt file for all the details. Enjoy!

Who wants to be the hero of the internet emulation community? You? ...You, maybe? THEN MAKE A SNES EMULATOR FOR GBA! Here are 3 good reasons: Earthbound, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger.

Be a hero. start programming.

They've already done Sega Genesis to gba conversion and several others. I don't know whether to believe them or not... But it does prove that even if hardware is somewhat different, it is possible to have (somewhat) of an emulation.

It cant be done, even with heavy asm. Gba just doesnt have the power, or the compatability....
Get a gp32, who can resist a 75mhz arm9 (safe overclocking to 133mhz)

SNES on GBA is possible... To fix the button problem, just use some sort of button combination of some sort.. skip the sound and just do the game and graphics... it reeeeally should be possible...

First off, no matter how many people (programmers or not) come here and talk about how much they know, the facts still wont change. Yes, it is possible to (on a computer) take a .snes rom and convert it to .gba. All that need to be made is a program. As for the stuff that matters, like picture, sound and the abilitly to use all of the buttons, you CANNOT fix that very easily. Nintendo had to actually change most of their games int order to make them compatible with the GBA. Super Mario Advance (Super Mario Bros. 2) was never a Snes game and you all know that. It was originally for the NES and then they made a remake for "Super Mario All Stars". Nintendo didn't just change the system, they had to change everything and redo it all. Although it may seem to the careless mind that everything is the same when a SNES hit comes to the GBA, it's not. Nintendo has to decide how the screen will be placed in the GBA and what scanlines to cut off. They have to decide how they will compensate for the lost buttons from, SNES to GBA and they also have to deal with sound. Things like that can't just be converted, the actual game needs to be remade. I totally agree that alot of SNES games could make it to the GBA, but a professional would have to do and spend many hours changing many things in the game whether they are later noticed or not. I personally would like to see the first three Megaman X games on the GBA, so all we can do is hope that Nintendo keeps on porting thos eold classics to the new system. And all you who like to yell out yoru opinions, be mature and shut up.

And its not that were lazy dumbass - it cant be done. programmers owe you _fuckall_ and you should consider yourself lucky that people like loopy even release thier gba emus. Tell you what, go learn some c, then a little arm asm, then you can start telling us wether a snes emu is possible and were all just damn lazy, asshole. Now exuse my while i play xbox with my monkeyspunk alien emu on my tapedeck.

Well usually you need a 10:1 ratio to emulate, but you get the graphics "for free" on a GBA. The SNES and GBA graphic chips are NOT the same, but they are similar enough to make stupid not to take us of it. But you would probably have to go without sound, because GBA programs have to their sound mixing themselves. Mixing 8 SNES sound channels and emulating the main CPU could be tight.

I believe a SNES emulator on GBA would be possible, but not perfect.

I am a programmer and here are the facts: USUALLY, there needs to be a 10:1 ratio to emulate at full speed. Now the GBA is nearly 4-5 times faster :-/ Now i have seen pretty good emulators with that kinda of ratio (4:1) but games like Zelda (which was already ported) does not need speed like that, and there are few games that do.

Of course SNES would be possible on GBA. It's dumb to say it's not possible! It's only a mather of strenght and will! There are currenctly 2 different projects. But however, none of them are showing any progress. But thats just because they are lazy probably. Check the info on http://www.gameboy-advance.net/emulated/snes_roms_on_gba.htm .... Check the table.. The GBA is FAAAAR more powerfull than the SNES... Belive me...But the project leaders just doesn't have any good programmers, sponsors, will, meaning,funding..and stuff...Hell! i would pay 40$just to get a workin snes emulator!

Not possible. Not NEARLY enough buttons on the GBA, even with similar hardware.

SNES = 65816 CPU
GBA = ARM CPU

A GBA is NOT a miniture SNES - the hardware inside is 100% different.

you are correct in that the snes and gba are totally different under the hood. and yes also there is a problem with the buttons since the super has to more. BUT how come quite a few games have been brought to the gba which are originally from the snes!!! for example "super mario world 2" same with dave mirras pro bmx 2. wasnt that game regularly for the playstation! so what did "full fat" do, the just made the controls that they didnt have a button for be a button combo. it could be done and its only a matter of time before it does. oh yeah, what about the mario cart advance! anyway some games would be very difficult or damn near impossible to convert over with some very frusterating controls but some games would be great. another eg is earthworm jims 1 and 2.

True but a meaningless answer
The NES = 6502 CPU but their ROMS will run via an emulator on the GBA. The only question is, will the GBA have enough processing strenght to emulate a SNES. That could be hard but in my opinion it can be done (with a lot of effort.)
