EmuViews Featured on TSS! - July 30,2002 by JoseQ
It seems Cat wasn't kidding! TechTV's The Screen Savers mentioned EmuViews in the show for July 30th! I'm going to catch the re-run in a few minutes, but based on reliable comments, it did in fact happen. What can I say... I'm incredibly honored to have my site on TV even though it's been almost dead for a year. The website mentions "extensive, professional reviews of classic videogame..." and I can only thank my killer ReView crew. They have done a wonderful job, and with the site coming back and all, I hope they all pick up where they left off, and we can make this site one of the better ones once again. My motivation and excitement has only grown ever since I posted about coming back, so the site seems to be climbing along on my list of priorities. I can say I'm looking forward to my return as much as many of you based on your comments. And now that I'm ocassionally updating, I feel more nostalgic than ever. EmuViews will be back soon!

Forget it. EV won't be back on it's old days shape. This 'news' are only publicity stunts to satisfy Q's ego. Truth is he'd come back long ago if he wanted to...

Funny, but not true. Why would I want publicity? It was never about that, and much less now.

Well I just want to know why you took down the site in the first place? Playing nostalgic games was awesome.

Shame though - when I had to reformat my hard drive they all got wiped. I come back to regain some and they aren't here anymore.

I can't find them anywhere and I know I'm amongst many others who are gutted to see this site wrecked and taken down. Why did you have to take them out anyway? Was it copyrighted or something? And what is this c@#p with copyright anyways. I wouldn't mind but they aren't even selling the games they used to. It is a waste of time. Still I hold abated breathe of you pinning them back up again. Maybe one day :os

So what is it for ? There's no money to be made from emulation unless you take it in a piracy fashion - selling cds or waving 'hits' to catch that elusive advertising market that's in recession anyway - and I'm sure you wouldn't do it for charity. But your (almost) banner-less site couldn't handle the expenses of re-buiding the site as it was say in 1999 on those "pre-Nintendo-take-that-rom-from-your-page-or-else" days when you served terabytes of roms to the eager masses. Nowadays there are even more emulation fans (people grow old day by day, emulators are more and better than they were) and a site with 'complete sets' is prey to the beggarz and to leechers. But, moving on, is there a point in making another emulation news site - there are zillions of that - with short news copied and pasted from the authors' readme files ?
I don't think so...
I'll stick to the other pages that replaced EV as my start-up page way back in 2000. And I won't give their names either just to show you how much I hate publicity !

Well, it's not for the money either. I love video games, and I love emulation, and I would like to get back to being a webmaster. I enjoyed it while I did it, and I'm glad to have enough spare time to pick it up, now that I'm playing MAME more than ever before. (Maybe that will change once I get back into action).

Although it's probably like you say and there are too many news sites out there; like before, I'll try to be a little different and offer things not found on other websites.

On the bandwidth aspect of things, believe it or not, my bandwidth costs have come down tremendously. Although I don't pretend I can have the ROM collection I used to have back online with a complete MAME set, I will probably rebuild most of it (C64, Atari, and other oldies probably) as much as I can. If I do get around posting MAME ROM sets, then I will have to find a solution for distribution, like cycling downloading availability. There are tons of options, and fortunately, I do have tons of bandwidth available, so that won't be an issue.

We'll see where EV goes, but one thing is for sure, the news of my comeback were definitely not a publicity stunt.

JoseQ man, it'll be good to see you make a triumphant return of OG emulation, baby! I've been missing a good emu site, and yours and emux.com were my faves...Info was always good, and I think that your site inspired more people to write emulators and get their software out....Welcome back, and good to see you, man...

P.S. Bring back the MAME roms, at least...It was quite cool to have a pretty complete MAME rom site to download from....;)

That TV stunt was one night show. I don't believe emuviews will ever come back. If Q REALLY wanted that he would have done it long ago.
Besides, even if he returns things won't ever be the same (e.g. no roms and no freedom like it was before). News were shorter and shorter and roms more scarse before closing, so, what can we really hope or wait for ? A simple 'old school' site with not much to report, ignoring lots of emulated systems other webs never forget (computer ones mainly). I say this with sadness in my heart because I was a big fan of EV : it's better buried (than living like a zombie).

Ah, but youre forgetting the old emux.com. Emux was #2 in my book, a quality site, "allmost" as good as emuviews...

Who am I kidding? emuviews was, and still the best.

Yeah emux - I didn't forget, but I only used it for rom-downloading - never visited (or knew about) their messageboard.

And retrogames with their "fresh" style - and boards where you were sure to be flamed and pissed at - "bunch of suckers" was what I thought of them when I was visiting them (in the case that the good newssites was down for some days) - well retrogames does host MARP - so there's allways something good to find in a pile of ...

Am looking forward to Rumour Mills, News, Reviews, Boards, Top Lists and hosted sites - would like to see All emu-game Tips and Tricks-sites hosted here (can't remember the one that was here, but sites like rcatt) and getting mamehistory.dat stored at an english-languaged site (isn't it freench ...fandemame or something) - you know what I mean...

And a Polite and Interesting messageboard is what I would like - I haven't been reading any boards a long time cause most of 'em are crowded with retarded teenagers bullshitting and flaming...
- you know what I mean!

Am I a bit hostile today?
Well a long days work done and a long nights work waiting...

Well I'm off - bye

Will be back

If you ever frequented the emux boards then go to www.pcbboard.com, that's were alot of the board memebers migrated to.

Maybe it's just me, But if emuviews did'nt have the roms back everything should remain smooth sailing for a good while. What I mean is, this way the IDSA will never bother emuviews & JoseQ will be able to operate freely... An added bonus I see in this : this will give JoseQ all the time he needs to expand the site, put out a more rumor mill, visit the EV chat ect...

Because you see, im not from the nintendo generation like all the kids out there that fall in the : GIVE-ME-EVERYTHING-FOR-FREE-&-NO-i-DON'T-WANT-TO-DO-ANYTHING-BY-MYSELF category so I CAN find the roms all by myself *hint* *hint*.

My 2 cents.

JoseQ is putting roms back on this site, it will take a while though.
I think the more things this site has: the better. A lot of main rom sites have closed down now, so lots of rom downloaders are searching for new places to download. When the roms are up, all these people will notice and hopefully download from here.
I for one am struggling to find websites that still have MAME roms to download.
I reckon many people feel like this so I think having roms back on the site will help its popularity =)

I never came here for roms. In fact a similar conversation came up back before emuviews went down and the overall consensus was that most visited for the content.

There are plenty of rom sites out there that will have alot more and a bigger selection of roms so why bother having any at all?

News is nice but its the rom downloads that made the you what you were (i.e. the difference between JoseQ and the better news-only sites like retrogames, vgn etc).

Its great that you're reviving the site but it will hardly be worth visiting until you reinstate rom downloads.
