MAME is Cruisin! - October 28,2002 by JoseQ
Aaron Giles has done it again! He sent today a new TMS32031 core which enables both "Cruisin' USA" and "Cruisin' World" emulation! You can visit the MAME WIP website for a ton of pictures from the game in action. However, don't expect to run these games at full speed as Gridle mentions needing approximately a 4 Gigahertz CPU to get them running at full speed. Regardless, the screenshots look awesome so you must check out the WIP site.

When I saw the system requirements on the MAME site I just assumed it was either a misprint or a joke.. There isn't a 4 GHZ Pentium 4 or Athlon XP yet and there wont be for at least another year. They are just now pushing the 3 GHZ barrier. If it really takes that kind of power, then someone needs to work on that code a little more.

Aaaah, yes, I remember the good 'ol days when the MAME team released the driver for Mortal Kombat 2 and everybody was going on about how you need a 1 GHZ PC to get decent speed on it (not to mention a cool comic about it at overclocked.org), which was the top of the range pc back then.

I think as long as emulation exists there will always be the requirements for faster and faster and even more faster systems, the same as in the pc gaming world- there will always be something new and bigger to emulate. As for working on the code, yeah, maybe, until the next big thing comes along.....

Yeah I agree. Just really sloopy coding. And who's to say that in the next year Intel won't release a Pentium 5 or AMD to release another processor version Clawhammer. And an AMD 4000+ wouldn't actually be a 4GHZ processor.

We know that is uncorrect for a game needs much and much memory only because it is new for a mame driver and have good graphics, but we do not understand why mame team(team of lamers and arcade owner)
the Mame team in fact stole the programz of an old arcade jamma(the mame ),a jamma is a pc without keyboard and mouse
and the whole programs is an old and a new arcade game on a jamma
mame want to not show the true of fact, and play with lamer power to trick you
think for playing pacman correctly without frameskip ,i need a p2 400!
mame takes for publicity money from motherboards builder's,or it was a bussines pubblicity conspiration that is on by year

.....................................
think that mame give you the real program taken from a jamma boarcd(pc without keyboard and mouse),we all need to play old games from year's 82 to 97 with a p133 mhz (the jamma made between that years is a p100mhz)
Mame continue to joke with all of us,and the stupid richest give at companies the money for change their machine for what you mame team think needede for refresh your pubblicity or selling bussines
and that is only because us hate mame,we know almost all of them
and all of them have ignorants don't understand a word of such as a program or visual basic
now i tell all the truth because want t5he real jamma programs run on pc's of all anbd take down mame bussines for ever in the hell
the copyrighted is another trick of them, but all fails to stop roms on the net :-)
we have discovered the mame trick, who live only to fuck your money back and remain saint for you!

something that needs a 4ghz is too much, and nothing even requires that.that game is not worth buying a machine like that.i hope the recommendation goes down cuz that is far too high for a game.

Granted, 4 Ghz is a helluvalot of cpu for your gaming, but if you look whats emulated and how much cpu you need to run correctly..(Race Drivin' anyone?)you'll notice that the game itself was on old hardware, but to emulate it, thats different..and when all else fails and you don't want to fork the clams over for 4 Ghz (im with you on that) you cna always go out and buy an N64..if memory serves right, the conversion of cruisin' the world was actually pretty good...especially compared to the deplorable cruisin usa
