Sega Master System III? - November 14,2002 by JoseQ
A Sega Master System III? According to TecToy, a Toy company in Brazil, that's going to be a big hit this coming December! The new system appears to be modeled after the Sega Master System, yet it includes 74 games built-in, and not crappy games, but SMS classics like: "Alex Kidd in Miracle World", "Fantasy Zone", "Kung Fu Kid", "Wonder Boy", The "Great" sports series and more! If you're a console collector, you should figure out a way to get your hands on this 'new' console. It may be old, but it's still a great classic system. I wonder if the 3D Glasses work with this puppy... Thanks to SMS Power for the news!

This looks kinda like the Activision 2600 games plug and play tv module that came out a few months ago. Defenitly good for lil' kids as well as collectors.

One beef: why only one Sonic game?

I live in brazil and I must say that it's very strange when you enter in a store and sees a Nes and a gamecube side by side... I think only here you can see something like this... there are consoles for all kind of people (and pockets).

We have exactly the same thing in South Africa, you still get the Nes, Genesis, Master System as well as all the newest consoles in the market.

I am in the UK at the moment, but when I left it was about $8 for the Nes and the Master system and $36 for the Genesis. You also get all the games for the consoles on sale as well.

You can imagine how big our game stores are with all these consoles and their games and pc's as well in it.

But I suppose that is why emulation is still such a "forbidden" subject - game companies are still making cash of their games and consoles in certain parts of the world.

Btw, they now make the Nes console in the shape of a Psone, and they call it the Play system one. Even the controllers look the same as the Psone's. You still play with cartridges obviously.

That is very interesting... I've never seen any place like that, except for maybe used hardware stores. But for them to be manufacturing new 'old' consoles is very cool.

How much do they each sell for anyhow?

Man that looks so cool. I doubt it's legit to Sega's point of view, why with roms being online and all they probably got all of those roms mentioned and burned them on a chip and then made a system called Master system III to pass it off as a "new" system. At least that's the idea that came across to me. In any case, this looks like an awesome piece of work =)

yeap...actually the SMS III has been avail in the Brazillian market for quite some time. This is the first time I have heard of it having built in games and especially 70+ of them at that. Also it was mentioned about them having some SMS exclusives...one of those games is none other than Gunstar Heroes for the SMS. Hard to get... :)

Tec Toy has right to distribute Sega systems and games in Brasil (they are heavily covering all systems from SMS to Dreamcast).
They released some exclusives games already, and already released SMS III a long time ago (basically same as European SMS 2, thought).

Jose: 3-D Glasses won't work on a SMS 2 based system since the card and jack ports were removed.
