MESS 0.62 Released! - December 11,2002 by JoseQ
Trying to catch-up a little bit with the news... A new version of MESS was released yesterday. You can download the Windows binary from the Emulator Download Page. This version includes a new driver for the "Odyssey 2" console and a few changes for the following systems: Spectrum, Coco, SNES and Apple 2. This core is based on MAME 0.62. MESS fans, be sure to download this latest installment, and as usual, enjoy.

Maybe the MESS team should release a full version, and different mini versions just for an specific system.

MESS 7800 only for example, would be nice. I like MESS, but its too messy. And I only want a good 7800 emulator. I don't care about the other systems it emulates. I use Meka for SMS and Kega for Megadrive.

You can do that if you compile your own copy with the TINYMESS option.

Eeek... I remember hearing the exact same comment multiple times about MAME back in the day... And it being the same architecture, I doubt you would get any benefit from a slimmed down version of MESS other than a smaller download...

You know Mess is really wonderful if you see how many systems it emulates, and well. I think this is one of the most underappreciated emulation topics that there is. Its amazing how many people appreciate their nebula to mess. Though I guess its good that way to a certian degree!

Well, I will tell you this much, if you want good 7800 emulation, then this is the ONLY Emu you can use. V7800 is good if you use DOS. But it hasn't been updated in a LONG time. Reason is because all the new code that would have gone into V7800 was instead ported into MESS. So all development of the 7800 driver is strictly being done in MESS only for now.

MESS does decent TI99 Emulation as well...

oh yea don't get me wrong i give kudos the authors for trying something different.it would be cool to have a perfect multi emulator, imagine having all your games on one emulator.that would be cool but is just a pipe dream i guess.

Oh C'on, it's not that bad. I mean, nobody is forcing you to use it, right? And there aren't much options for some of the systems it supports.
