| Oklahoma Gaming Exhibit - July 13,2003 by JoseQ
| Greetings visitors! Since there are still a bit of visits everyday, I thought I'd post here to help my good friend Jesse Hardesty (a.k.a. -^Cro§Bow^-) with a classic gaming exhibit he is organizing. The name of the show is OKGE, short for Oklahoma Gaming Exhibition. The show will take place on September 20,2003. Already there are quite a few exhibitors signed up for the show including Shane Kukiattikoon with his Super Mario Kart $1000 Challenge. The website linked above has all the details about the show. If you wish to talk to Jesse directly, you may find him usually in the EV Chat where we still hang around regularly. You may also find his e-mail address on the website in case you wish to become an exhibitor at the show. I hope to see many of you there! One Article Down: Change of plans...

It seems that all the decent sites like emuviews and other sites that used to provide news have closed or just stopped updating. I used to visit emuhq and they shut down and it seems that emuunlim is updating whenever they feel like if they update at all. Times have certainly changed since it all started.

Just wondering how's life treating you.
Do you have plans on running the site again or have someone else do it?

Quote: In response to a filing by Brewster Kahle of The Internet Archive, Lawrence Lessig of Creative Commons, and others, the Librarian of Congress granted exemptions from copyright protection measures in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to obsolete videogames. The exemption applies to games that require the original media or hardware as a condition of access, and it determines a format obsolete "if the machine or system necessary to render perceptible a work stored in that format is no longer manufactured or is no longer reasonably available in the commercial marketplace."
According to the original filing, the exemption was proposed in order to migrate degraded and obsolete works to modern storage systems, and enable "archiving, future scholarship, and commentary." On October 28, 2003, the Librarian of Congress, on the recommendation of the Register of Copyrights, announced the classes of works subject to the exemption from the prohibition against circumvention of technological measures that control access to copyrighted works. The four classes of works exempted are:
**about ROMS**(3) Computer programs and video games distributed in formats that have become obsolete and which require the original media or hardware as a condition of access. A format shall be considered obsolete if the machine or system necessary to render perceptible a work stored in that format is no longer manufactured or is no longer reasonably available in the commercial marketplace.

Do you think now that theres a copyright exemption on old roms, that maybe some of the old webmasters that used to run emulation sites will return from hiding out? It's sad how angry little kids destroyed the emulaton scene a few years ago, when they would get mad over something in a message board, and think it would be cool to write a fake letter to the webmaster claiming to be from Atari or something, and threatning to sue them. Then the webmaster would drop a load in his pants and quickly shut down his site.. I always said there was nothing wrong or harmful in posting roms from old dead game systems, but the people running the top sites in the emulation community was too scared to see that. Hopefully, now that there is something in writing, the yellow ones will come out of hiding...<<>>

As another Okie, I'm floored that something this cool will be taking place here. As an "old-school" computer guy, this is about as cool as it gets for me.

I will definitely try my best to be there, but with my schedule, only time will tell... I'd say that right now, there's a 90% chance that I'll be there. =)
Not sure if playing Mario Kart though, I did play that for a few years with a friend... Always did battle mode, but while I got to be quite good at it, so did my friend, so I can't say I'm unbeatable... the guy from the challenge can most likely kick my butt!

Good to see a post
I have a friend who has allways clained to be the worlds greates Mario Karter
I cant beat him but hey I'm only average he's not an EMU fan but when he played it was only the first track in time trial... but it was a site to see he'd go bowser and hug those curves and flip into the straight I'm sure there are better players out there probly but what he could do on that first track was inspiring.
These boards Are not deleted so I'd like to mention That the AUSTRALIAN MARIO KART CHAPION IS Mathew Brehney

That is great news for Oklahoma!! I want to personally thank Jesse's driven love for classic games for this one. I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma where we never get anything like this.. I think the closest thing to this would be the Trek Expo.. but Klingon's don't play Atari so whats the point. Anyway I will be there For Sure!!!!!!
Thanks for the News Jose
