Snes9X Update! - December 21,1998 by JoseQ
Some news from the Snes9x.Com Page."Christmas is nearing, so we thought why not give the world an updated version ofSnes9X" is how their update starts, and haven't I've been saying it allalong. A new version of Snes9X has been released, although right nowonly the Linux port is available. It is unclear when the DOS version willbecome available, but the word is 'soon' so that's when we'll get in onthe updates to this great Snes Emulator. Here's what is new right fromthe page:
  • Pulled apart a real SNES using a crowbar (great fun), just to look at whatspeed the SPC700 is actually clocked at for more acturate relative emulationspeed.
  • mplemented SPC700 cycle counting in the hope the improved timing would fixTales'; no such luck but at least the -ratio option is obsolete now.Implemented executing SPC700 instructions during DMA, fixes BSZelda andGoal lock up at start and music pausing briefly when ROMs do lots of DMA,usually between game screens.
  • Scrapped the i386 asm SPC700 code - it was the cause of the music notrestarting after a battle in Chrono Trigger and FF3 and I didn't realise becausethe bug had already occurred in the test freeze-file I had. Thanks to JohnStiles for pointing out that the Mac port didn't have the missing music problem.
  • Fixed RGB subtraction bug on displays with only 5 bits for green, e.g. RGB555displays. The GREEN_HI_BIT variable was always set to a value for 6 bitgreen displays.
This should be released pretty soon in DOS form, so stay tunedfor an update to this article and it's appearance on the Emulators Page.
