More Hot Rod News & Views - June 07,1999 by JoseQ
Well some more news for you to remember the Hot Rod Joystick .Richard Ragon has informed me that there is already a Secure Server Order Formthat you can use to order your very own Hot Rod stick. Did I mention this stickrocks? I must also mention about some experiences I had over the weekend withmy Hot Rod. I loaded up a couple more different emulators to see how the stickwould perform.
Given that M72 and S16 are pretty much on hold until someone adopts them,I was expecting quite a failure with those two emulators. To my surprise, loadingR-type on M72 worked right away as well. Nao had followed the same buttonconfiguration MAME does. So I played R-type for about half an hour until Ifinally gave up and figured I was never going to get past stage 4. However, gettingthere was much easier than my previous attempts at beating the game with akeyboard. I really love that game.
System16 was also a working right out of the box experience. I tried a coupleof games like Shinobi which is one of my favorites. Loaded, inserted coins, playedfor an hour. Yup, it gets even more addictive when you can make your moveshappen much much easier. Beating the stage 1 Boss was quite easy as I wasused to doing it in the arcade. I had tried that technique with the keyboard tono avail.
Sad news however come from the realms of another dead emulator. Callustesting was not very succesful, as the third button on my SE version of the HotRod maps to the alt key which Bloodlust decided should be used for the menus. So unfortunately, when you try to do a hard punch in Street Fighter II, all you getis a game pause. Games that use five or less buttons will work right away as youcan always configure Callus to use those, so Final Fight fans fear not, as thisstick has to be your #1 choice for two player simultaneous gaming. You know, forthose games, there is always MAME. And I hear the retail Hot Rod will definitelycome packed in with legal SF2 ROMs, so if what you're looking for is to playStreet Fighter battle mode with a friend, look no further than the Hot Rod!
