EV News - Week In ReView, etc. - June 15,1998 by JoseQ
Well, maybe a little too late, but today I'm adding a new weeklyfeature to EmuViews. It will be called the Week In ReView. Basically it'sjust a script that shows the headers for the past week, and in case youdidn't catch it, you get the chance to do so. Or just if you are doingresearch, you'll be able to look at chunks that cover weeks instead oftwo or three days. For this past week you can clickHereto see it. So lets see what really happened...
Last week we saw the appearance of 6 new versions or new emulatorsas in the case of MAME for newer version .33b5 and DTMNT for a completelynew emulator. Latest MAME beta didn't have any blockbuster hit, but itwas welcomed nevertheless. DTMNT features speed and many updatesto the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles emus around. Latest version includesall kinds of Joystick Support among other things. You can get any of ouremulators on the Emulators Page.
We also had three InterViews last week. RAINE author Richard Bushexplained his point of view on the size of MAME, and talked to us aboutabout whats going on with him, since he is now sort of away from the net.Lord_13 explained how he looks at the Emulation World and his opinionon the happenings around the scene. Lastly and sadly, Thierry explainedon EV why he was retiring from programming Emulators. That was the lowpoint of the week as we are always sad to see people leave. We wishThierry the best.
In an interesting case, we saw the birth of a fake emulator createdby EmuXtraordinary. EmuXtraordinary has denied to reply to my E-mailsso I've rendered him guilty of fake charges. CapXtra 2, as he calledhis Emu was supposed to emulate CPS 2 games (a.k.a. Street FighterAlpha and the such). He even went far enough to post some screeshotsthat looked rather dubious, with graphical "errors" that looked taken outof an unexperienced Paint Shop Pro user, and misplaced names that wereobviously not the result of preliminary emulation. Ask GurtyGurt in#mame and he can give you the full details of his investigation.
Those were the highlights for Last Week.Lets always hope that the next week is more exciting than the previous one.
